Matara Centre

Matara is a unique wedding venue, it is situated near Tetbury in Gloucestershire. When I arrived I knew my job of photographing Jenny & Dom’s wedding at the Matara Centre was going to be great fun. The Matara Centre looked stunning bathed in the early morning June sunshine for a wonderfully quintessential English summer’s wedding. Wedding days like Jenny & Dom’s do not just happen. There was a huge amount of planning involved to bring everything together for their big day, and the day started early for the girls. The bridal party all got ready together in the lovely bridal suite at the large house at Matara.

All the groomsmen kept Dom very calm, floating around the house and courtyard. They breakfasted (more brunch than breakfast really) on a very fine looking bottle of 10 year old Glenmorangie. Once the guys were all ready they joined the other guests on two red London buses to whisk them all off to St James’ Church in Dursley. They were closely followed by Jenny and the bridal party in their horse and carriage.

Church Wedding Ceremony

The Church wedding ceremony was a delight to photograph. All the guests were great as they kept their ‘phones in their pockets (no guest photography requested by the bride and groom) and watched the ceremony through tear filled eyes. With the rings exchanged, the register signed and wedding certificate safely in place it was back to Matara for the celebrations.

Back to The Matara Centre

Once back at The Matara Centre, myself Jenny & Dom strolled the grounds and got some lovely bride and groom photographs. Then back to guests to capture the family formal group wedding photographs. It was then time for the lucky guests to taste the culinary delights provided by the expert chefs at the Matara Centre. This is the time of the day my cameras are turned off and photography stops – I never photograph at a wedding while guests are eating. Emotional speeches followed the wedding breakfast.

There was a small break in proceedings for guests to let their food go down before Jenny & Dom took to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife. This was followed by an extremely energetic but very well organised ceilidh. If that wasn’t enough, when darkness fell everybody made their way outside for an amazing firework display. This was followed by sparklers, then a hog roast (which was very nice!!!). Then in for more dancing, what a day!
