At the height of the wedding season it is not uncommon for me to shoot weddings on consecutive days. August 2018 saw me packing my gear at the end of a wedding in Gloucestershire then off to Sandy Cove Bay Hotel. I the hit the M5 southbound ready to be on the north coast of Devon near Ilfracombe the next morning. Sandy Cove Hotel was the chosen location for Edite & Bob who had also made the journey from Gloucestershire for their big day.
Thankfully the sun rose over the north Devon coastline as I woke. Edite was completely unaware that her sisters were flying in from the Channel Islands to be her bridesmaids. Very few brides like anything unexpected to happen on their wedding day, but this surprise was indeed a delight.
The ceremony had been arranged to be outside. The view was tremendous overlooking the Atlantic ocean. The ceremony itself was to be held in the hotel’s outdoor pagoda. This also provided the guests with a welcome shelter from a freak passing shower minutes before the ceremony. It was quite comical really seeing all the guests trying to take cover in an area designed for a handful of people. The shower then dissolved and was gone as quickly as it arrived. Soon after the sun broke through and Edite walked down the aisle.

The views over the ocean provided a wonderful back drop for a lovely collection of portraits of Edite and Bob.
Edite’s brother took the responsibility for the first speech. His speech was extremely comical and very close to the mark. When the cake was cut the guests made their way down to the marquee for the first dance and the evening celebrations. Every couple of minutes I was checking the sky to see if we were going to see the sunset over the bay. Geographically we were a few miles around the cove to see the sunset, in saying that we still managed to get some magical evening shots of the happy couple with an ocean backdrop.
