Engagement Shoot
The date for your wedding is set and the venue is booked. A growing sense of excitement builds when you book other suppliers. The venue has been secured, the next step is usually to book your wedding photographer. One thing to take into account when booking your wedding photographer should be an engagement shoot or pre wedding shoot. There are one or two wedding photographers out there. All with varying degrees of technical ability, experience and styles. I would describe my style of photography as creative documentary wedding photography, complemented with portrait photography. I feel this style of wedding photography gives couples a great blend of images throughout their wedding day. This means I will be capturing unscripted candid moments throughout your day. Along with the group pictures that you would like. This will give you a great selection of formal and informal images of your big day.
You will come across various descriptions of wedding photographers. From a documentary wedding photographer, reportage wedding photographer, fine art wedding photographer, formal wedding photographer, classical wedding photographer, cinematic wedding photographer, destination wedding photographer, award winning wedding photographer and so on. I would suggest that when looking for your photographer. You take a look through a few wedding portfolios of selected wedding photographers that are in line with your budget. Then make a selection based on what suits your eye. Meet up with that wedding photographer to have a chat with them and go through your ideas and those of the photographer.
One thing to bear in mind, is that an established wedding photographer can offer you so much information and advice if required. They are the one supplier involved in your wedding day who will spend more time with you than any other. When you meet up with your intended photographer it is essential you get the feeling that you would be happy to spend a lot of your day with him or her.
Something that is such a great thing to do is a pre wedding shoot or engagement shoot. I thoroughly enjoy spending time with couples on their pre wedding shoot. You can really understand each couple and you really do get a very good feeling of their likes and dislikes (if any). Within minutes of the shoot, you will relax into being in front of the camera. I have a very relaxed and calming manner with couples, even with couples who say “I hate having my picture taken”. Before you know it, an hour or so has passed and we have captured some wonderful images to mark your engagement. I can also offer you advice on getting the best from yourselves when in front of the camera should you want that.
As far as a location for your pre wedding shoot. I can suggest some lovely places local to Cheltenham, Gloucester, Gloucestershire and around the Cotswolds. Or we can go somewhere further a field that may be special to both of you. A couple of other considerations for your engagement shoot would be. Time of year, time of day, the weather and location.
If you have a pre wedding shoot I guarantee you two things. You will feel so much more comfortable in front of the camera on your wedding day. You will also have a great selection pre wedding images.
I will edit your images to ensure they look as wonderful as you would expect. You will also have all the rights to print and share your images.
